International Foundation Programme (IFP)

The Ellesmere College International Foundation Programme (IFP), is a new and unique pre-university programme of study over 1 year delivered at Ellesmere College - a Recognised Teaching Centre for the University of London International Foundation Certificate.

Launching in September 2021 at the College, the programme provides a means of progression for students wishing to go on to undertake studies at undergraduate level at the University of London or at a wide range of universities in the UK and around the world. An award from the University of London is a mark of excellence, respected by employers and universities worldwide.

About the IFP at Ellesmere College

Ellesmere College is a University of London Recognised Teaching Centre. Being granted Recognised Teaching Centre status by the University of London means that in the view of the University, we demonstrate a sustained commitment to developing excellence in respect of teaching, support to students and administrative processes. The course of study - consisting of four units - is delivered by subject matter experts within the College, and on successful completion of the programme students will be awarded the International Foundation Certificate (which is equivalent to A levels) by the University of London Certificate and official transcript.

The programme consists of four courses of study with an examination in each.

  • FP0001 Mathematics and Statistics
  • FP0002 Economics 
  • FP0007 Pure Maths
  • FP0012 Chemistry

Students studying the International Foundation Programme will be able to take advantage of all the College has to offer on site and in the local area of rural Shropshire in the North West of England. Students - UK and International - will be able to board in one of the Sixth Form Boarding Houses on a flexible or full time basis, or attend as a day student, have access to all the co-curricular activities, meals, Pastoral Care and health & fitness facilities including a heated pool, gym, golf course, indoor tennis courts, shooting ranges, a broad range of sports, as well as participating in any number of our Arts progammes - singing, music, drama, dance, etc.

Progression

Most UK universities accept the International Foundation Programme for entry to many of their courses and students who have completed the programme have gone on to study with the University of London in the UK or in their home country and at many other institutions in the UK and around the world.

You are also guaranteed entry to the wide ranging undergraduate degrees offered through the University of London and with academic direction from its member intuitions:

  •  London School of Economics (LSE)
  •  Goldsmiths
  •  King's College London
  •  Royal Holloway.

Application

Students of 17+ can apply for entry into September 2022 to Ellesmere College if they have completed their Gaokao or have IELTS 5.5 as a minimum (higher would be a distinct advantage).
