The Arts at Ellesmere are present within the School's everyday life. We pride ourselves that, as long as a student shows commitment and enthusiasm there is always an area - whether that is Art, Music, Drama or Media Studies - where students can nurture their skills and artistically thrive.
The rich and vibrant cultural life promoted by our Artsmark programme is essential to the spiritual and creative health of our community and we celebrate the fact that our busy artistic calendar allows every student to integrate with a broad range of ages and social groups to create plays, concerts and exhibitions across the disciplines.
Most importantly, we urge everyone to play their part and reap the benefits. The range of tastes catered for is as broad as it gets. There is always plenty of vital, exciting work for those who shy away from limelight and prefer to be backstage engaged in specialist technical work. We have a weekly technical Club which is run by our resident technician. For more information please read our technical page.
We enrich the experience and foster community links by touring and by hosting events. In addition to regular performances in the UK, there is a biennial drama tour of the USA and an annual choir tour in Europe. Alongside these and many other headline events there is always plenty going on back at College.
No less important is the preparation everyone receives in the indispensable art of Public Speaking. Qualifications in Spoken English which are available to all. L.A.M.D.A, Dance and graded Music Lessons are also available, subject to places with our specialist teachers. In addition, Artsmark gives Middle and Senior School pupils the opportunity to develop skills in a range of areas to fulfill personal artistic targets and achieve nationally recognised levels of attainment (Bronze, Silver and Gold) with the support of resident teachers and professionals who visit the School.
Aside from the dizzy heights reached by our elite Musicians, Actors, Dancers and Artists, who have several chances throughout the year to perform at a high level, nothing compares with our annual House singing competition to reflect the communities feel of Ellesmere as a School. Everyone gives voice with their Houses, whether they can sing or not. It is a splendid and joyous festival which is competitively anticipated each year by the different Houses vying for the winning vote from the selected judges.
