Ellesmere College Parents' Society (ECPS)

Dear Parents and Guardians

We are delighted to welcome you to the Ellesmere College Parents’ Society. Whether you’re new to the community or have been with us for a while, we’re so glad to have you on board.

At ECPS, our aim is to foster a supportive, engaged and vibrant environment that helps build a strong connection between families and school life. Together, we can create opportunities, celebrate achievements and enrich the social experience of the whole school community.

We look forward to meeting you at events, hearing your ideas and working together to make this a truly special community.

Warm regards,

Helena and Sadie

Ellesmere College Parents’ Society (ECPS) is an inclusive non-profit Society, run by volunteer parents.  Its aim is to assist parents in feeling part of the College community and to encourage social involvement. ECPS arranges a variety of events and activities throughout the academic year, from large ticketed events such as the traditional ‘Ladies’ Lunch’ on the last Wednesday of Summer Term and ‘Burns Night Supper’ in January, to smaller get-togethers like creative workshops or simply coffee and cake.  Meetings are held monthly in term-time, with the AGM incorporated into the last meeting in the Summer Term.

The Society also supports the College in various ways through organising smaller events for the pupils, having a presence at Open Days and lending a hand at music and drama productions or other initiatives run by College staff.

Membership

All parents, guardians and carers of pupils at Ellesmere College are automatically members of ECPS and are invited to join the circulation group (updated each year). Ex-parents, guardians and carers are also considered honorary members and are invited to join an ECPS Alumni group so that they can keep in touch with what is going on.

To join the circulation group, please contact ecps@ellesmere.com

ECPS and You

ECPS has a flexible structure and the organisation chart depicts a typical ECPS year in principle.  This is subject to change, according to the events as decided by the wider group.

In recognition of parents’ busy lives the structure aims to encourage participation from all members as and when they are able, either by taking a role in the Chair Group, being part of a Working Group, volunteering to be a helper at an event or activity or by attending the meetings or events. Regular attendees and volunteers are DBS checked.

Please note that ECPS does not have a specific parent/teacher liaison role as all matters relating to a pupil’s education and development are always covered directly from parents to tutors or Housemaster/Housemistress.

STAINED GLASS WINDOW MEMORIAL

A stained glass window has been installed at a school in memory of a head teacher who died last year.

The Ellesmere College Parents Society raised £1,600 to pay for an artist to create it as a tribute to Brendan Wignall.

The group's co-chair, Helena Hepburn, said the idea came to them because they knew both Mr Wignall and his daughter "enjoyed creating beautiful stained glass art".

It has been installed in a corridor which leads to the Headmaster Office and she said: "Brendan would walk there every morning and evening. It's a busy thoroughfare for staff and the children so is the perfect place for a tribute."
