Year 11 Careers Conference Great Success

Last Friday, the School's annual Year 11 Careers Conference and a record number of careers advisors were on hand to support the enquiries of pupils and their parents.

Professionals from thirty-six walks of life were available to lend their expertise to the pupils at Ellesmere College and help them make their next subject choices with A-levels or the International Baccalaureate. The careers advisors included current parents, former pupils and parents as well as representatives from local businesses.

Besides advisors from numerous universities, careers advice was on offer for medicine, legal services and veterinary studies. Representatives were also present from West Mercia Constabulary, Shropshire Council, the National Health Service and the Ministry of Defense. A Gap Year advisor also attended the event to provide advice to those considering taking a break after their time at school and before embarking upon further education at university.

Stephen Mullock, Head of Business Studies and Careers commented, The event has been held at the School for the last eight years and as the numbers of pupils in Year 11 have grown, so has the variety of requests for representatives from different companies and organisations. The Schools main assembly hall, Big School, lends itself for such events and we were delighted that this years Careers Conference was so well supported by former pupils acting as careers advisors in their own particular field.
