Welcome England Cricketer to Academy Day

Left-hand batsman, Daniel Redfern, Debyshire and England Under 19 player, has accepted the invitation to visit the School on Saturday 29th January, when the School holds its third annual Academy Day.

The School's Cricket Academy, headed by Rod Jones, ECB Level 3 Coach Tutor provides a player pathway linking into Regional and beyond. Links have also been forged with Glamorgan County Cricket Club. After Adam Shantrys successful visit to the School for last years Academy Day, Rod was keen to secure the support of another young national player to help inspire the Schools cricket scholars and visiting young players. Dan will be running a coaching session alongside Rod, who commented,  We are looking forward to Dan leading a coaching session and giving all the young cricket players present to learn first-hand the dedication and focus required to develop talent to a national level.

Ellesmere has in place a sporting programme that aims to produce international standard individuals in Cricket, Rugby, Tennis, Shooting and Swimming.  This is an opportunity to meet the Coaches involved, understand the philosophy and look at the opportunities to be gained from the scholarship programme at Ellesmere College.

Rod added, Like the other Academies at the School, cricket players are coached to an elite level whilst receiving a first class education and we are delighted that Dan is joining us and participating in a training session.

Following a welcome presentation by Brendan Wignall, Headmaster, budding young cricketers and their parents will be able to meet both Rod Jones and Dan Redfern as well as Ian Williams, Director of Sports, who will field questions from players and parents regarding the Ellesmere College elite player development programmes.

The Academy Day will also give similar opportunities for talented rugby and tennis players to learn about the well-established and highly successful Rugby and Tennis Academies. Titans senior swimming coach, Jon Pardoe, will also be presenting the opportunities for talented swimmers to join the elite development swimming Academy that was launched at the School in June 2008 and boasts Olympic swimmer Darren Mew as a regular coach who will also be present at this years Academy Day. The coaches behind the emerging Shooting Academy will also be present.
