On Wednesday, the Under 15s Sevens Team won the Adams Sevens Tournament.

Travelling across the County to Adams Grammar School in Newport, to play in this annual tournament, the team was acompanied by their coach, Mike Sampson, who commented, We were blessed with a spell of good weather and this led to some high quality rugby despite the fact that most teams were short of practice.

After topping their group with wins over Sandbach and Old Swinford Hospital, Birkenhead School withdrawing due to an unfortunate injury to one of their players, Ellesmere defeated Malvern College by 54 points to 5 to reach the final. Sandbach, the group runners up and the winners of the equivalent U14 event last year, won through defeating the hosts on the way, to play Ellesmere again. Despite falling behind by half time and only keeping themselves in the tie with some great cover tackling, the Ellesmere team exerted considerable pressure in the second half scoring three unanswered tries to run out winners by 24 points to 12.

Mike Sampson, added, Adams Grammar School arranged a fine competition. I was delighted for the boys, who have made rapid progress in understanding the game of rugby sevens and who approached the Tournament in a very positive fashion.
