Titans Reach Final of National Swimming League

Last Saturday, 14th November Ellesmere College Titans travelled to Kendal to compete in the round two of the Arena National Swimming League.

With a team of just 26 swimmers the Titans arrived knowing that they had a real fight on their hands to reach the prestigious final on the 12th December.

Following a superb team effort in Round one, back at the beginning of October, the Titans went into the second round gala in 4th place in a league of twenty teams which include Warriors of Warrington, Ulveston, Liverpool Penguins, Wigan, Gateshead and, Swim Gwynedd.

By the end of the gala the Titans had swum their way into the final by finishing in third position on the night, having faced stiff competition from two of the three teams above them in the league, finishing behind both Gateshead and Ulveston but in front of Wigan, Prescot, and Chadderton.

The final team points were as follows:

Gateshead                            241
Ulveston                               206
Ellesmere College Titans         182
Wigan                                   150
Prescot                                  134
Chadderton                            117

Stacey Tadd once again demonstrated her status as one of Britains most versatile female swimmers with an emphatic victory in the galas first event - the Open Ladies 100m IM in a time of 1:04.76. Later in the gala she stormed to victory in the Open Ladies 100m breaststroke in 1:10.72. Despite suffering from a severe bout of sickness former Olympic swimmer Darren Mew, demonstrated why he has been selected to represent Britain at the forthcoming European Short Course Championships and rallied to the occasion winning both the Open Mens 100m IM and 100m breaststroke events.

Over the course of the 50 events Titan swimmers securded 10 first places, recorded a total of 15 Personal Best times and broke 9 Club Records.

Head Coach Jon Pardoe said this was a real gladiatorial contest between the might of the North and a highly talented but young Titan team. Im glad to say that every last Titan swimmer rose to the occasion.

So congratulations to Alfie Pardoe, Robert Lau,  Ottillie Fairhurst, Hannah Greene, Elliot Hughes, Courtney Pickstone, David Main, Lauren Bond, Daniel Howell, Annie Mellings, Annie Jones, Stacey Tadd, Darren Mew,  Jessica Thomas, Natalie Greene, Tom Lloyd, Thomas Holland, Matt Bullanda, Michael Doyle, Jack Bacon.
