Sixth Form Student Achieves Gliding Wings

During the recent half-term holidays, a Year 12 Ellesmere College student was given the opportunity to learn and develop skills to achieve his gliding wings.

Yuriy Loychenko from Russia, has been an RAF Cadet since joining the School 3 years ago.  He stayed at RAF Trenchard Lines whilst on the glider flying course at Upavon airfield in Somerset with 622 Volunteer Gliding Squadron.

Debbie Joynson-Brooke, Director of Activities commented, Yuriy was given the opportunity to learn about the Vigilante motorised glider and develop his gliding skills. The course covered best practice flying techniques and resulted in Yuriy being awarded his gliding wings. This is a significant personal achievement for Yuriy. He has made his parents very proud and we congratulate him on this achievement.
