Sixth Form Geographers Experience a University Lecture

Professor Mark Whitehead from Aberystwyth University, Department of Geography and Earth Sciences, gave a University style lecture to our Year 12 and 13 geographers. The lecture focused on the issue of Energy, current dilemmas surrounding meeting current energy demands, along with an overview of who produces / consumes resources at a global scale.

The lecture was provided as part of the Geography and Earth Sciences centenary lecture series, however based on the success of the event we hope that it will become a regular fixture for the Ellesmere College Geography department.

Mrs Waddams, Head of Geography, said "Having the flexibility and capacity to go beyond the curriculum is essential in the educational development of all students at Ellesmere. The ability to go explore the subject without the boundaries of the classroom really enhances the students perspective of the issues and themes that are prominent in the world we live in today.

The students were a credit to the school and all were thoroughly engaged in the material being covered. We cannot thank Mark enough for making the information accessible and interesting and hope that this can be repeated in years to come."
