A Full House for October Open Day!

Ellesmere College opened it's doors to a record number of families at the October Full School Open Day and the weather didn't dampen any spirits on the day!

Visiting families got their first taste of Life at Ellesmere as they were welcomed by Sixth Form students at the Registration desks in Ante-Chapel after which they enjoyed some light refreshments in the Dining Hall ready for their tour.

Students from all years of the school then took families on a full College tour - starting with the Ellesmere Journey in Dining Hall - with representatives from Lower and Middle School, to Sixth Form and Pastoral Care for students at the College. The tour then continued through the College with a focus on particular areas of interest that each family had highlighted at registration; these included meeting specific staff members about Sixth Form choices, Lower School tours, exploring the sporting facilities and academies, music and arts provision, scholarships and Support for Learning.

Incorporated into the tours was the welcome address by Headmaster, Brendan Wignall, delivered in the Arts Centre, and provided a great opportunity for parents to see many aspects of the Artsmark Platinum award winning facilities and students work.

A considerable amount of academic work from pupils at different stages was on display in classrooms across the School, and in the Library there was the opportunity to discuss the variety of academic options and pathways for students through GCSE as well as A Level, BTEC and the International Baccalaureate.

Lower School was buzzing with activities giving young visitors the opportunity to have a go on musical instruments, visit the Wildlife Garden and get hands on with the displays! There was also a display of scientific experiments in the Junior Science Laboratory.

Families were also able to learn about the co-curricular activities for students including Survive and Thrive - an activities programme for Year 7 and 8 pupils - the Combined Cadet Force (Army, Navy, RAF), Green Team, Monduli Project, Duke of Edinburgh and expeditions, and a number of boarding houses were also open to give an insight into the opportunities for weekly and full-boarding.

The day was rounded off by a delicious afternoon tea in Big School where parents could chat to members of the Ellesmere College Parents Society Chapel and then meet with the Admissions Team regarding individual student 'Taster Days' and further visits to the College.

Brendan Wignall, Headmaster commented, "I am always keen to ensure that the School's Open Days are meaningful to all our visitors and am delighted we had such a large number of new families visiting us for the first time - as well as those enjoying a second visit. I was particularly delighted to welcome back a number of former pupils who had returned with their families and took the opportunity to catch up with the considerable recent developments at their former school."

Our next Open Day will be in March 2019 - find out more Click Here but families are always welcome to visit - so please do call or email for an appointment to: registrar@ellesmere.com - 01691 626510.
