New Head Boy and Girl at Ellesmere College

Head Boy and Girl

With record numbers joining Ellesmere College this year the new Head Boy and Girl at a North Shropshire School will be busy supporting the Headmaster and staff in ensuring that every pupil feels welcome and settled in their new environment.

Elizabeth Boffey from Longden on Tern and David Anders-Richards, originally from Oswestry but now living in San Francisco, have taken the roles this year as Ellesmere College's Head Girl and Head Boy. These appointments are particularly challenging since there are now 614 pupils at the School, ranging from 7 to 18 years.

Elizabeth, known as Lizzie, joined the School in Year 8 and David in Year 7. Both of them have experienced and enjoyed many of the opportunities which have been on offer during their time at Ellesmere College. Lizzie commented, 'I have loved all the choices which I have made over the years, like the Duke of Edinburgh Award activities and all the sports on offer. Besides being delighted to lead the School during a significant period of expansion in our pupil base, this summer I was nominated by the School to participate in the Global Young Leaders Conference in the USA.'

Whilst studying for their A-levels and keeping focused on their goals to gain places at the University of their choice, along with their group of supporting prefects, Lizzie and David will have the opportunity to develop their leadership skills and learn to conduct meetings with their peers as well as teachers. David, who is taking A levels in Physics, Chemistry and Geography is planning to study Medicine at University. He is a keen rugby player, playing in the 1st XV Rugby Team and, like Lizzie, is also a keen thespian, both having had parts in a number of school plays over the last few years.

As well as to help younger pupils to integrate smoothly into the school's community, with a number of new pupils into the Sixth Form studying the new International Baccalaureate syllabus, one of Lizzie and David's more significant tasks will be to develop a rapport with pupils of all ages to ensure they are approachable. David commented, 'Both Lizzie and I have been very happy at Ellesmere and over the coming year I feel it is an important part of my role to help ensure that others younger and new to the School feel the same.'

At the forthcoming Open Day on Saturday 11th October, between 1pm and 4pm, Lizzie and David will be leading the group of School's prefects as they guide families around the School.
