Drama at Chirk Castle

As part of their Performance Studies A Level, a group of four pupils from Ellesmere performed a play on Saturday at Chirk Castle.

On October 14th 2006 the group of sixth form students from Ellesmere College performed “Masters and Servants”, a show they have created themselves.

“Masters and Servants” was performed in the half-masked style of Commedia dell’Arte but with a Twist – quite literally! The group decided to base their story around relationships between masters and servants at Chirk Castle but to turn it into a rock and roll comedy in seventeenth century dress with zany masks and madcap dance routines including a manic “Let’s Twist Again”!

Their teacher, Mr Richard Boswell, commented, “The National Trust education department have been so helpful and it is wonderful for the students not only to be able to draw inspiration from our historic properties but also to be able to perform in them”.

The creating and performing group were Christopher Bevan, Catherine Irby, Chloe Perkins and Hadleigh Roberts.
