Launching a Career in Sport: Tennis Coaching Awards

At Ellesmere College, as well as developing world class tennis players, the Ellesmere College Tennis Academy offers opportunities to students who may also want to pursue an alternative career in tennis, perhaps to gain a scholarship to university in the USA, or even going into coaching.

So this year the College has launched a Level 1 Coaching Award for students in Years 12 and 13 so that when they leave Ellesmere they already have a usable and globally accepted sporting qualification. This award allows students to move onto Level 2 in any other sport without the need to take Level 1 again. Twelve students have enrolled on the course which will be complete by Christmas. Level 2 starts next term in 2020.

In addition to this, the younger players in the College are encouraged to take Leadership courses allowing them to help in the running of tournaments and coaching sessions for Mini Tennis Players. One of these students, Cameron Parry (pictured) in Year 7, has recently gained certificates for 'Helping at Competitions' and 'Introduction to Tennis' courses. Cameron is also part of the Development Academy at Ellesmere College and regularly competes around the region and has experienced being a young player at tournaments. With his qualifications he can now help others who are starting out on the same path both at the College and in local Tennis Clubs.

Congratulations to Cameron and good luck to those taking their Level 1 Coaching Award!
