Former Pupils Return to Ellesmere to Perform in Concert

The School was filled with the glorious music of Haydns Creation recently when the Choral Society performed their annual concert and where joined by 4 soloists.

The Choral Society has existed for many decades and numbers have swelled in recent years, now boasting 60 members. Pupils, staff, parents and members of the local community sing alongside each other and annually perform a Lent Term concert, which this year took place in the impressive Big School.

Following months of rehearsal, under the direction of Roger Paul, Director of Music, who also conducted the performance on Saturday, The Choral Society and soloists all sang wonderfully, with one of the soloists being Year 12 Music Scholar, Vicky Tadros. The 3 other soloists all had previous connections with the School. Lucy Heyman, Soprano, used to visit her brother when he was a student at Ellesmere nearly fifteen years ago. Chris Larley, Tenor, was a pupil himself at the same time and Adrian Blakeley, Bass, was a former pupil over twenty years ago. Roger Paul commented, This was Adrians first return visit and he was very impressed with all the changes that had taken place over the years.

The singers were accompanied by the professional sounds of the orchestra, made up of the Schools Music Scholars and visiting professionals. Roger Paul, Director of Music, explained, It was a wonderful evening enjoyed immensely by both the performers and the audience.  For several of the Colleges Music Scholars, who performed in the orchestra alongside the professional players, this was a valuable experience.

Some former pupils, who have made donations to the School in recent times were in the audience, being hosted by Nick Pettingale, the Schools Director of Development, who commented, For some of my guests, this was their first concert at the School since they were pupils themselves and many of them commented how the standard of music during the performance had impressed them.

The Choral Society meet every Monday evening between 7.30pm and 9pm during term time and new members are always welcome.
