Ellesmere Students Celebrate GCSE Success

Ellesmere College students are celebrating their GCSE results. The results published today saw a 90% pass rate with 30% of grades in the top 9-7 range (A*/A)

There were some particularly notable performances, as listed below, where the majority of their grades are out of nine, and in some cases ten GCSE's were taken, and these were in the top level 9's and 8's (equivalent to A*/A)

· Cameron Davies (Wrexham) four 9's and two 8's,

· Oscar Dodds (St. Helier) two 9's and five 8',

· Wendy Tam (Shrewsbury) four 9's and three 8's,

· Ewan Tulloch (Llanymynech) three 9's and four 8's

Many of the current students are now looking forward to returning back to the College in September to continue their academic journey into Sixth Form and study their choice of A Levels, International Baccalaureate (IB) or BTEC courses for the next two years.

A number of younger pupils sat a GCSE early in mathematics and a range of languages.  The youngest of the early year entrants, Natt Kritchanarat, currently in year 9 completed her GCSE Mathematics and was delighted to achieve a top score with a level 9, she will go on to study A level mathematics through year 10 and 11.

This follows on from last week's excellent A level results and destinations, which can be updated to include Aeneas Dennison who has secured a place at Homerton College, Cambridge with A*AA to read Anglo Saxon, Norse and Celtic

Mr Wignall, Headmaster said "It is a pleasure to see how well pupils have achieved. They are commended for their positive approach to the examinations this summer. With two years of disruption to their education their achievements are even more impressive. Our swift move to teaching online as soon as the country went into lockdown, delivering our full timetable using Microsoft Teams for remote learning, ensured that little time was lost but nevertheless, being online rather than in school has been a difficult experience to adjust too and it is a testament to our pupils determination and resilience that they have rose to the challenge, their results today have been hard earned. They are now very well prepared to embark on their Sixth Form programme with us and we look forward to seeing them in September."
