On Saturday 18th March 2023 the Ellesmere College Chapel Choir performed a selection of sacred music from their Barcelona repertoire for a special Passiontide concert in the Chapel of St. Oswald's, Ellesmere College.

The Chapel Choir were on excellent form, performing each piece with clear balance and beautiful shaping. This music goes on to form part of the repertoire for performances at La Sagrada Familia, Barcelona Cathedral, Montserrat Monastery and Our Lady of Nuria from 23rd – 27th March.

One of the audience members said: "I loved having the chance to listen to the dulcet singing of the Chapel Choir with their  energy and vibrancy.  (There wasn't a dry eye in the house.) Thank you so much for that opportunity too.  You'll go down a storm in Spain."

In the second half, Ellesmere College Choral Society performed 'The Crucifixion' by John Stainer. One of the best known and loved choral works, The Crucifixion tells the story of Jesus' final days. The Choral Society performed with a real sense of drama that was at times electrifying. They were supported by Gerry Howe on the organ, Russell Painter (Tenor) and OE Jakob Fradley (Bass). The performance took place in the Chapel of St Oswald at the College. Kevin Whitley accompanied on the piano.

One of the members of the Choral Society said: "I'd very much like to add my thanks Tony for all your kind patience and great support in directing us in the concert yesterday evening and for all the rehearsals to help us prepare.  It was wonderful to be able to sing again and I very much appreciate being in the choral society."
