New Swimming Pool

New Swimming Pool

During the recent Easter holiday, work commenced to enclose the outdoor pool as well as further developing existing sports' facilities, including the re-surfacing of six tennis courts.

According to records, the Ellesmere College swimming pool was constructed in 1901 and 106 years later the pool enclosure project is now well underway in preparation for completion by the start of the next academic year. This new facility will connect the Sports Hall, which opened in 2004, and the former gym, recently converted into a modern weights and fitness suite.

Ian Williams, Director of Sport at Ellesmere College, commented 'All the PE team are delighted that the recent legacy of a former member of staff has made it possible for the pool enclosure project to begin. We look forward to giving all our pupils the opportunity to swim throughout the year and in particular helping to develop the considerable swimming talent that already exists amongst our pupil body.'
