New Head Boy & Head Girl

New Head Boy & Head Girl

With record numbers joining Ellesmere College this year the new Head Boy and Girl will be busy supporting the Headmaster and staff in ensuring that every pupil feels welcome and settled in their new environment.

Abigail Merrill and Charles Cooper (both from Wrexham) have taken the roles this year as Ellesmere College’s Head Boy and Head Girl. These appointments are particularly challenging since there are now 550 pupils at the School, ranging from 8 to 18 years.

Abigail and Charles both joined the School eight years ago as nine year olds into Year 5. Both of them have experienced and enjoyed many of the opportunities which have been on offer during their time at Ellesmere College. Abigail commented, ‘I have loved all the choices which I have made over the years, like the Duke of Edinburgh Award activities and all the sports on offer. Besides being delighted to lead the School during a significant period of expansion in our pupil base, this year I am also the 1st Girls’ Hockey Team Captain.’

Whilst studying for their A-levels and keeping focused on their goals to gain places at the University of their choice, along with their group of supporting prefects, Abigail and Charles will have the opportunity to develop their leadership skills and learn to conduct meetings with their peers as well teachers.

In his spare time, Charles can often be found practicing his golf skills on the School’s golf course. He commented, ‘over the years, sailing on Whitemere has also become a favorite pursuit.’

As well as to help younger pupils to integrate smoothly into the school’s community, with a number of new pupils into the Sixth Form studying the new  International Baccalaureate syllabus, one of Abigail and Charles more significant tasks over the coming weeks will be to ensure that they are approachable by pupils of all ages. Abigail added ‘Both Charles and I have been very happy at Ellesmere and over the coming year I feel it is an important part of my role to help ensure that others younger and new to the School feel the same.’

At the forthcoming Lower School Opening Morning on Saturday 14th October, between 10am and 1pm, Abigail and Charles will be leading the group of School’s prefects as they guide families around the School.
