On Thursday 22nd June Ellesmere College will be hosting an open air theatre company production of A Midsummer Night's Dream.
The College is delighted to be welcoming back former pupil, James Reynard from The Rain or Shine Theatre Company. James will be directing A Midsummer Night's Dream, Shakespeare's forest-based tale of warring fairies and mismatched lovers.
The ten strong Gloucester based professional troupe's whilstle-stop three month tour encompasses outdoor venues across the UK. Rain or Shine Theatre Company, winners of the Buxton Festival Fringe 'Best Drama Award' and renowned for their 'exquisite' outdoor renditions of classical comedy - from Shakespeare to Sheridan - are set to delight audiences once again, whatever the weather, as they embark on an ambitious 50 plus date open air UK summer tour.
Members of the audience are invited to bring their own low-backed seating or rugs and a picnic to maximise their enjoyment of the "al fresco" performances. True to their name, the company will perform in all weathers, except hurricanes and blizzards and there is a wet weather plan at the College. The Gates open at 5.45 pm for picnic parties.
Enjoy the antics of four gorgeous mortal lovers and six slightly less gorgeous rude mechanicals, as they become unwitting participants in the magical machinations of the immortal world.... Throw in a play within a play, a famous (or should it be infamous) impish sprite and you have pure Rain or Shine MAGIC. Add one Bottom, one elixir flower, one drugged Fairy Queen and hilarity ensues. It's fun, it's farce and it's fantastical. If it weren't set in a forest, you'd hear bedroom doors slam.
The play is being performed on the Terraces at Ellesmere College on Thursday 22nd June 2006 at 7.00 pm. Tickets are available by ringing 01691 622321 or on-line via www.rainorshine.co.uk
