Grace Hughes

A 15-year-old girl from Ellesmere College is continuing in the College's tradition of producing talented all-round sports people. Grace Hughes from Bangor on Dee has been selected to play for the County's U17 Hockey team.

Grace is a talented girl in all sporty areas; she plays netball and tennis as well as hockey, and is regularly involved in College running events.

To secure a place on the County team, Grace had to compete in a series of trials against other hopefuls in Shropshire, in front of a team of Selectors, who were very impressed by her skill and ability.

Grace currently plays hockey 3 times a week and takes part in matches at the weekends, but she is expecting this to increase to take in account of her selection onto the County Squad. She has said, “I've always played hockey, but not at such a competitive standard until I came to here. I'm very keen to continue in the sports field when I leave school, and this is great - but challenging, experience”

Anne Murray, Head of Girls Games at the College said of Grace “She is a strong member of the school team, she's very athletic and determined - she has great potential to do well”
