The Unlikely Journey of Jack de Crow: A Mirror Odyssey From North Wales to the Black Sea

Anyone in the Ellesmere College community who wonders what happened to Sandy Mackinnon (Common Room 1991-97) will be interested to hear that he has written a book about his travels from Ellesmere to the Black Sea in a mirror dinghy. This is quite a feat especially seeing as he only meant to go as far as Bristol! It ended up being a twelve-month voyage of discovery and excitement, which has made the book an enjoyable read. As the author puts it “A couple of weeks quite sailing on the river Severn was the intention - a year later I had reached Romania and was still going”.

The book launch will be taking place at the College's Art Centre on Friday April 5th. Anyone who would like to attend the launch or catch up with the author should contact Matt Stone by e-mail matt@crowsnezt.free-online.co.uk or at the College, for details.

The book is being published by SEAFARER BOOKS in Suffolk. Copies are available direct from them: 102 Redwald Road, Rendlesham, Woodbridge, Suffolk IP12 2TE.

Sandy is now resident back in Australia and is teaching English and Drama at Geelong Grammar School in Melbourne.
