Shooters hit the headlines

Ellesmere College Recipients of International Awards at the Shropshire Schools Sports & Athletics Association's John Beswick Awards Evening

Nine pupils of Ellesmere College were among over forty young people in receipt of awards at the SSSAA John Beswick International Awards Presentation Evening held at Shire Hall on Tuesday 29th January 2002.

This is an awards ceremony when young Shropshire sportsmen and women are honoured for gaining national recognition in their chosen sport and representing their country in international events.


Five of the Ellesmere College pupils were in receipt of Repeat Awards since they have represented their country in international competition for more than one year. Sam Lyons has represented GB and Wales in Canoe Slalom; Patrick Barker (GB Juniors), Jennifer Corish (GB Juniors and Wales), Siân Corish (GB Juniors and Wales), Tom Doe (Australia Juniors) have all competed in Target Rifle Shooting.

The four pupils receiving New Awards have all competed in Target Rifle Shooting for GB Juniors in friendly international competitions and for the Ellesmere College Rifle Team in France. They are : James Bielby, Niall Crispin, Henry Fletcher-Brewer, and Andrew Richardson.
