b'Academic Holocaust Memorial DayAs part of our preparations for Holocaust Memorial Day on January 27th 2022, two of our Sixth Form historians - Tabitha and Carmen - had the privilege of interviewing Ms Leisel Carter - a survivor of the Holocaust and who, at aged just 4, travelled alone across Europe to the UK to escape Nazism. The Sixth Formers connected with Leisel over video call and listened to her harrowing story as well as asking her questions about her life - pre, during and post-Holocaust. The interview was then used as part of a Yr 12 Historians workshop on the day, and to produce and present several age-appropriate assemblies for the rest of the Ellesmere College students. All the students were fascinated by the stories Leisel shared and the information about the Holocaust the Yr 12 students presented, and were encouraged to reflect on and appreciate the differences and hardships of life then and now. For more visit: Leisels Story: Escape Through NorwayIgniting Imaginations with STEM ChallengesWhat better way to ignite our students imaginations, drive their teamwork, and develop their problem solving skills than with fun and fast paced STEM and IET Faraday challenges! Both Year 8 and Year 9 students took two very different challenges at the end of last term but both were designed to get their teamwork and problem solving hats on! STEM days at the school are designed to put the emphasis on students working as a self-directed and motivated team, navigating beyond their comfort zones and being challenged to explore their own solutions to a variety of real world challenges - aerospace, transport, space travel, etc.Judging from each of the teams presentations and demonstrations we think they should be very proud of their achievements - dont you?
