Sports - Physical Education
The department strongly believe that young people should be given the knowledge to help them lead a healthy active lifestyle whilst in school and in the future.
Physical Education has a unique contribution to make to the total education of an individual. At Ellesmere College, we aim to maintain and stimulate pupils' interest and enjoyment in an extensive range of physical activities. We offer all our pupils the opportunity to develop physical skills, fitness and to enable gifted games players and athletes to pursue their chosen sport to high levels of achievement.
All pupils at Key Stage 2, 3 and 4 will have one double PE lesson per week, which is 70 minutes in duration.
The PE curriculum ensures that all pupils follow as wide a range of activities as possible.
We offer both GCSE and A Level PE, and BTEC as examination courses. There are very popular subjects. They enable pupils to experience and promote the value of exercise and healthy living. Furthermore, planning and evaluating sports performances, pupils increase their knowledge of physical activity.

Sports Centre
Ellesmere enjoys some of the best schools sport facilities in the country.
Ellesmere College Sports Centre offers a wide range of facilities for both competitive sport and fitness activities. Open to members every morning and evening during term time, and throughout the day during school holidays, it provides exceptional opportunities for athletes of all levels.
Set within outstanding grounds, the centre supports both elite performers and recreational players, with access to video analysis, sports psychology, physiotherapy, physiology, private healthcare support and professional club links.
Sport teaches lifelong lessons in self-awareness, resilience and character. Our students play for the joy of it, expressing themselves through skill, courage and determination.
Ability is not what matters most. While some students excel at the highest levels—representing their county, country and achieving international success across a range of sports—we value every participant equally.
Our expert coaches focus on making sport enjoyable and accessible for all, encouraging every student to play with confidence, develop their abilities and reach their own potential.
