International Summer Schools

Students are encouraged to speak English at all times, using the language in social situations to improve their learning ability.English classes are fast-paced and interactive and students are encouraged to practice their new language skills during sports, cultural and social activities.

Ellesmere is located one hour from the cities of Manchester and Liverpool, and one and a half miles from the border with Wales and the nearby Snowdonia National Park, an area of outstanding natural beauty.

English Learners course combine English lessons in the morning with a choice of professional sporting or cultural activity coaching in the afternoon. Activities include football, golf, tennis, horse riding, basketball, swimming, dance, outdoor adventure and water sports.

Our Discover English course offers engaging and stimulating English lessons in the morning with set sporting or cultural activities in the afternoon. A variety of activities are available and students are encouraged to use English as much as possible. Activities include football, glass painting, basketball, jewellery making, swimming, yoga, badminton, dance, cricket and shopping.

Weekly trips to attractions like Snowdonia National Park, Liverpool and Chester put students's new language skills to use.

English Learners course offers a mix of engaging and stimulating English lessons in the morning with further English practice lessons in the afternoon. 

Sports facilities at Ellesmere include 9-hole golf course, tennis courts, multi-sports playing fields, horse riding, modern indoor sports hall, indoor and outdoor swimming pools and a yachting lake. Girls and boys also board in separate houses. Each accommodation house has a spacious lounge area equipped with computers and televisions.

Healthy meals are served from a buffet in the large dining hall, with hot and cold choices and light snacks are available throughout the day.

Excursions from Ellesmere include trips to Liverpool, London and Oxford, as well as Chester for shopping and Snowdonia National Park for outdoor adventures. In the first week at Ellesmere students take one full day and one half-half day excursion, and two full-day and one half day for each additional week at the summer school.

Overnight stays in London and Edinburgh are also available.
