Ellesmere College

International Students

Ellesmere College is a fully co-educational school set in the beautiful English countryside. Founded in 1884, the school offers students between the ages of 7 to 18 the chance to achieve success in both their studies and a wide range of activities, including music, art, sport and drama, in a happy, friendly atmosphere.

Great Britain has a world-wide reputation for its high standards of education and here at Ellesmere College we support that tradition by concentrating on the academic and social needs of every student.

We prepare students for their GCSEs, A-Levels and the International Baccalaureate as well as giving them the opportunity to enjoy a full and varied sports and social programme.

Standing in its own stunning grounds covering more than 50 hectares, the school is conveniently located near the small, historic town of Ellesmere, and is less than 100 kilometres from both of England's second major cities, Manchester and Birmingham. This ideal location means students can benefit from the vast range of activities both cities have to offer whilst living and studying in a tranquil English country setting.

Academic Choice
At Ellesmere College we believe it is not enough just to make sure that our students are successful at passing exams - important though this is - but that they also get the best of all that a British education can offer. We aim to provide subjects which appeal to all of our students' interests and academic strengths, while keeping class sizes small.

Pre Sixth Course (Age 15+ School Year 11)
This is an intensive one year programme designed to prepare students from outside the UK for Sixth Form studies in both A-Level and the International Baccalaureate. The course includes five to six GSCE subjects which are taught in greater depth. Subjects include: One or two sciences (specialising in either Biology, Chemistry or Physics) English Language first language, Mathematics, Geography and a language, either first and native language such as German, or if already competent in a second language such as French, Spanish or Latin.  All will also study English Literature and for a student with a high level of English on joining us there is the opportunity to take the IGCSE in English Literature in addition, this will be discussed with the individual once they have completed the first term of study.
