Year 9 Ethics Convention: Developing Future Thinkers

Year 9 Ethics Convention: Developing Future Thinkers

On 20th November, Ellesmere College proudly hosted its annual Year 9 Ethics Convention, an event designed to showcase how academic learning can be transformed into real-world communication and presentation skills.

This unique convention mirrors the approach often seen at university level, where students present and defend the hypotheses of their dissertations. At Ellesmere, we believe these are powerful skills that should be nurtured early — and our pupils certainly rose to the challenge.

Throughout the afternoon, visitors including staff, pupils, and invited guests explored a series of interactive stands. Each Year 9 participant guided their audience through the highlights of their chosen ethical topic, engaging in thought-provoking discussions and answering questions with confidence and clarity.

The feedback from attendees was overwhelmingly positive. Many commented on the quality of research, the depth of analysis, and the professional delivery of each presentation — a testament to the time, effort and dedication invested by our pupils.

Events like this not only strengthen academic understanding but also develop essential life skills such as critical thinking, public speaking, and persuasive communication. We are incredibly proud of our Year 9 students for their commitment and creativity in making this convention such a success.
