What does 'Life Ready' mean?

What does 'Life Ready' mean?

By now, you'll have seen that we encourage our students to be Life Ready... but what does that mean?

We are excited to introduce you to our 'Life Ready' curriculum, which brings together the ethos of Ellesmere – that every student is an individual - with five key pillars of strength, to create a holistic philosophy to our education. These principles enable each student to flourish, grow and be successful on both their academic and personal platforms, as they take their journey through the College and beyond. This ensures that Ellesmere graduates are not only knowledgeable but also confident, capable and ready to thrive in the world.

Academic

The academic aspect of our Life Ready philosophy focuses on personalised learning and academic excellence. We offer a broad curriculum of GCSEs, A Levels, International Baccalaureate and BTEC, catering to diverse student interests and strengths. Our small class sizes and dedicated teachers ensure individualised attention, fostering a supportive learning environment. The importance is on achieving personal bests and encouraging students to excel, in whatever form that takes for them. With a strong focus on critical thinking and problem-solving, Ellesmere prepares students for higher education and future careers. This academic rigour, combined with a nurturing approach, equips students to be confident and capable lifelong learners.

Sports

Ellesmere places significant emphasis on sports, recognising its role in developing life skills and personal growth. We offer a wide range of sports, catering to all skill levels. There is a focus on our academies: Rugby, Cricket, Tennis, Football, Golf, Swimming and Shooting. With top-notch facilities and experienced coaches, students are encouraged to pursue excellence and enjoy the benefits of physical activity. Ellesmere's sports program not only aims for athletic achievement but also prioritises fun and personal development, ensuring students leave with a well-rounded education and a lifelong appreciation for health and fitness.

Arts

The arts are a vital component of our philosophy, offering students a platform to explore and develop their creative talents. We provide a comprehensive arts program, including music, drama, dance and art, encouraging students to engage in live performances, exhibitions and creative projects. This involvement nurtures their artistic skills and fosters essential life skills such as confidence, communication and teamwork. With expert guidance and one-to-one Peri lessons, students can pursue their artistic passions alongside academic studies. The arts program at Ellesmere not only enriches the educational experience but also prepares students to be innovative and adaptable individuals.

Leadership

Leadership is a core component of the Life Ready philosophy. We provide numerous opportunities for students to develop leadership skills, through both academic and co-curricular activities. Students engage in programs like the Combined Cadet Force, the Duke of Edinburgh Award and various sports and arts initiatives, as well as volunteering opportunities in the local community. Leadership development is integrated into the curriculum, encouraging students to step out of their comfort zones and build resilience, time management and perseverance. Students cultivate the qualities necessary to become effective leaders and productive members of society, ready to face future challenges with confidence.

Global

We embrace a global perspective, as a boarding school which fosters an inclusive environment of students from diverse international backgrounds. By integrating global awareness into the curriculum, students gain insights into different cultures and global issues. Our international schools in Muscat, Riyadh and Doha further enhance this global outlook. The college's commitment to developing a global mindset ensures that students are not only academically prepared but also culturally competent, enabling them to navigate and contribute positively to the global community.
