Wales Call Up for Ellesmere Hockey Students

The Ellesmere College Hockey Programme has been consistently developing world class players and the latest to come up through are Harry Foulkes Year 11 and Adam Thwaite Year 13, with both having been selected to play hockey for Wales (NAG Boys Hockey).

Harry is combining his GCSE studies with a rigorous training and competition schedule; whilst Adam is doing the same in studying for his A levels alongside his varied co-curricular commitments at the College.

Boys hockey at Ellesmere College is played during the Lent term, with High Performance Hockey coached all year round. Boy’s hockey is accessible to players of all abilities from beginner to elite, at both recreational and competitive level. Opportunities to play and compete include social mixed hockey, inter-house hockey tournaments, inter-school hockey fixtures as well as local and regional tournaments.

Hockey Coach Simon Taylor said “the initial attraction of the hockey programme, attracted both boys to the College and it has been great to see them develop further and take the next steps in the hockey careers. The boys will face lots of challenging training camps and games and with this, they can then bring that knowledge back to the College to share with our squads.  The boys have done a great job in getting into the squad and the whole College community will support them as they continue to progress”

Players are encouraged to join local clubs and we have strong links with Oswestry, Whitchurch, Deeside Ramblers and Shrewsbury Hockey Clubs. Additionally, players are encouraged to join either the English or Welsh hockey player pathways to fulfil their ambitions of representing their country. We have a number of Ellesmere College players past and present playing at county, regional, national and international level.
