John Cowley Represents Ellesmere College at DofE 70th Anniversary Celebration

We were delighted to have John Cowley represent Ellesmere College at the celebration of The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award’s 70th anniversary at the Palace.

As a school with a long-standing commitment to the DofE programme, it was a fitting opportunity to recognise John’s incredible dedication and contribution over many years. A hugely valued member of staff, John has played an important role in supporting countless students through their DofE journeys at Ellesmere.

From assessing Year 9 Bronze expeditions, to supporting Gold canoeing expeditions, and more recently leading the Gold walking group each year, John has consistently gone above and beyond for our students. Whether faced with challenging conditions, long days outdoors or a few nights camping in unpredictable weather, his enthusiasm and commitment have never wavered.

The special anniversary event celebrated 70 years of The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award and the millions of young people who have discovered their passion, purpose and place in the world through the programme. During the celebrations, John also had the opportunity to reconnect with former Ellesmerians who have been involved with DofE during their time at the College.

It was a truly special occasion and a very well-deserved honour for a much-valued member of the Ellesmere community. We are incredibly grateful for everything John continues to do in support of DofE and our students.
