Ellesmere Tennis Triumph: National Success!

It has been another fantastic term for Tennis at Ellesmere. We are thrilled to celebrate an outstanding achievement by our Ellesmere College tennis teams!

Over the year they won the Shropshire LTA Schools event to qualify for the regional event. Our Year 9, 10 & 11 Girls’ Team made an impressive statement, by winning the Regional Schools Tennis Finals to be the top team in the Midlands, qualifying for the National Finals, with this success ranking them among the Top 4 teams in the UK!

Gwen, Tabitha, Amani, and Kathrina delivered exceptional performances throughout the competition. From commanding singles victories to a nail-biting shoot-out, the team showed resilience and skill. Gwen demonstrated real composure at the net, brilliantly supported by Amani, while Tabitha produced some of the finest tennis of her career, winning all her matches. Kathrina fought valiantly at number four against tough opposition, proving her determination and team spirit.

The excitement didn’t stop there! Over the past few days, our senior team travelled to Nottingham for the National Finals. After an incredible first day, winning both matches, they fought hard on Day 2 and finished 2nd overall in the UK — an extraordinary achievement, especially considering the young age of the team. They beat the top team from the North and the top team from the South west.  Well done to Gwen, Tabitha, VV , Amani and Kathrina.

Our younger squad — Years 7, 8 & 9 — also impressed, finishing 3rd in their regional finals, placing them in the Top 12 nationally! Bowen started strong with wins in both singles and doubles, Sophie displayed exceptional talent against older players, VV played a pivotal role in the playoff victory, and Poppy battled with grit to secure two superb wins.

This success reflects not only their talent but also their dedication and teamwork. We are immensely proud of every player who represented Ellesmere College with such distinction.
