Ellesmere Finalists at Barnardo’s National Choir Competition

Ellesmere College were delighted to be finalists in the largest national youth choir competition in the UK. Attracting entries from over 350 schools, 7 senior choirs were given the opportunity to perform on stage at Symphony Hall, Birmingham, the country’s best concert hall. Eventually it came down to a single mark that divided four of the choirs in contention, underlining the high standards achieved by the choirs.

At the start of this year, we were facing a rebuild in both the Chapel and Chamber Choirs at Ellesmere, especially on the tenor and bass line, and I had not imagined that we would be competing at the national finals. This is down to the grit, skill and musicality of our singers who bring great passion to their music-making.

I always encourage students to follow their dreams, choosing a path that will allow them to derive pleasure, purpose and fulfilment in their lives. In this sense, I feel lucky to have the opportunity of working with and being inspired by Ellesmere students. Hard work and enjoyment go hand in hand and, after an experience like the beautiful 2,500 seat Symphony Hall in Birmingham, it is easy to see what has been achieved.

STUDENTS

‘Today was incredible! Getting the opportunity to make new friends from across the country who share the same passions as me is truly amazing. My favourite moment from today was when everyone came together to sing the final song, it was great fun. Can't wait for next year!’
