Ellesmere College Commemorates Remembrance Weekend

This morning, students gathered on the Terraces to commemorate Armistice Day. The service included readings from Rev. Gration, Daisy and Theo and a powerful rendition of The Last Post performed by Henry.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
we will remember them.

Lest we forget.

At the College, Staff, pupils and their families and members of the Old Ellesmerian Community joined together on Sunday for our Remembrance Service in the College Chapel. Meanwhile, as part of our wider Remembrance weekend, pupils from Ellesmere College played a leading role in this year’s Remembrance commemorations in Ellesmere.

On Sunday, Kit Fisher represented the College as the marching side drum player during the town’s Remembrance Parade, joining local groups and veterans in honouring those who have served.

The previous evening, Tabby Kimber, Ellie Kimber and Mini Uras-Garvin took part in the Ellesmere Branch of the Royal British Legion’s annual Remembrance Concert, held in the Comrades Club. The trio performed God Be In My Head and Drop, Drop, Slow Tears together, before Ellie gave a moving solo performance of I Dreamed a Dream from Les Misérables and Tabby performed Meditation from Thaïs on the flute. The girls then returned to the stage for a touching encore performance of Sarah Quartel’s All the Way Home.

Also appearing at the concert were the Shawbury Military Wives Choir and the Porthywaen Silver Band, making for a memorable and heartfelt evening of music and reflection.

In recognition of their contribution, Tabby, Ellie and Mini were presented with a commemorative certificate of thanks by the Ellesmere Branch of the Royal British Legion — marking their second consecutive year performing at this special community event.

The Ellesmere College Music Department and the wider College community are immensely proud of the pupils’ musicianship, commitment, and community spirit in supporting such meaningful local occasions.
