International Baccalaureate

internationalbaccalaureateThe International Baccalaureate is recognised as the "gold standard" examination system at Sixth Form level with a curriculum that encourages students of a wide range of ability levels to be active learners, well-rounded individuals and engaged world citizens.

The Ellesmere IB provides both a demanding two-year and three-year programme (for Elite Athletes) of advanced academic study, but offers a much broader curriculum than A-Levels, enabling students to acquire a more balanced subject profile. It encourages independent learning, and is widely respected by universities worldwide, because of the range of skills it develops.

It allows students to feel more confident when they begin a degree course - students from the IB Diploma have significantly lower university drop-out rates than students who follow the more familiar A-level system. The IB Diploma offers a broad curriculum that enables students to follow a more balanced subject profile; in addition, the core of the programme adds considerable value to a Sixth Form education.

To this end the organisation works with schools, governments and international organisations to develop challenging programmes of international education and rigorous assessment. These programmes encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right
