Pupils Selected to Represent Midlands In Rugby League

Two year 9 pupils have recently been selected to represent the Midlands at rugby league.

Two 14 year-old twin brothers, Tom and Ted Parker, whilst playing rugby for the School, at weekends they play the league code for their local club Telford Raiders. For the past three months they have participated in the elite young player development scheme run by the Rugby Football League which culminated in them both being selected to represent the Midlands and recently playing in a match held in Derby against the North East of England.

Paul Goodwin, Director of the Rugby Academy commented, Besides Tom and Ted contributing significantly to Schools Under 14 side during last season, their rugby league coaches have confirmed that both boys helped the Midlands team to a 5 tries to 4 victory in a thrilling, hard fought encounter against their North East of England opponents.

Midlands RFL talent and coaching manager Martyn Rothwell added, When the twins are in action it's very difficult to tell them apart if you can't see the numbers on their backs so we have to go by the colour of their footwear. It can be quite confusing.

In Rugby Union the twins have also represented Shropshire at Under 14 level and are in Worcester Warriors youth development group at Sixways.
