GCSE Results 2011

The Schools pupils celebrate an outstanding set of GCSE results published today.  93% of grades awarded were A* to C grades.  It was pleasing to note that over 41% of all grades were the top grades of A*/A. Yet again our girls excelled with over 45% of grades secured were A* or A. Most departments recorded 100% pass.  Results for IGCE were published earlier with over 35% awarded the top A*/A grade.

There were some particularly notable performances that are worthy of specific mention in their A star achievement and many more scooped up a cluster of top grades in the A*/A/B range.

  • John Paul: 10A* grades and Mark McBrien: 7A* and 3As. Both boys live in Ellesmere.
  • Bethany Lyttle from Gobowen: 6A*s and 4As
  • Joseph Haigh from Westbury: 7A*s, with A/Bs
  • Sarah Carr from Cockshutt: 2 A* and 8As
  • Georgina Ottaway from Tetchill: 1A* and 9As
  • Hannah Clarke from Wem: 1A* and 8As

John, Mark and Bethany also managed to achieve an additional A grade in the Free Standing Mathematics Qualification for gifted mathematicians. Many pupils achieved a high number of top grades and 100% of our 2 year GCSE pupils exceeded the standard 5A*- C pass and the majority will be joining Ellesmere College Sixth Form to start either A levels or the International Baccalaureate in September.  Congratulations go to them all.

Brendan Wignall, Headmaster, said We have seen a bumper crop of excellent results this summer.  It is a testament to our pupils that all have combined achieving an excellent academic record along with maintaining their valued contribution to the musical, dramatic and sporting life of the College.  It is always pleasing to receive such a good set of results.  On completing their GCSEs today it is clear that our pupils have set down an excellent foundation on which to build their Sixth Form career.  The results today are a credit to them, to their teachers and, of course, to their parents.
