Ellesmere Students Boost Wales International Hockey

Ellesmere duo Caro and Lottie Hulme have been selected for the Under 16 Wales Girls Hockey Squad, where they will travel to Venlo in the Netherlands to play in the International Combat Tournament. The Oswestry pair will come up against some of the best teams in Europe. Sides from Belgium, Germany, Holland, Spain and Russia will be taking part in the Under 16 and Under 18 Boys and Girls Tournaments.

After winning their first caps for Wales against Scotland and Ireland last summer, Caro and Lottie have subsequently represented Wales in the UK School Sports Games in Sheffield in September, following which they have been training with the Wales Under 18 Elite squad. The programme allows national age group players to access high quality coaching and regular training, which supports players' transition into higher level international teams

Lottie said "I'm so pleased to take part in this tournament, and to play against other countries is a fantastic opportunity for us and it's one that we are really looking forward to."

The international event will be hosted by Venlose Hockey Club, which has provided several players for the Dutch National Team both in Men's and Women's. The twins, who are still only 14, have been playing senior hockey for Wrexham Ladies' First Team, where they are due to represent Wrexham in the Semi Final of the Welsh Cup against Newport (Gwent).

Delyth Sharples, Head Coach 360 North East Wales, said "The twins are extremely talented hockey players and have both been nominated after a number of successful performances at the Wales 360 Hockey Centre. They certainly have the potential to progress and become part of the Aspire GB setup, which seeks to develop players for GB Youth and Senior Representation".
