Two Ellesmere College Academy Tennis players, aged 13 and 14 have recently won the 97th Midland Girls' Schools' Lawn Tennis U18 Doubles Trophy.

Year 8 pupil, Hannah Clarke and Year 9 pupil, Joanne Bowen, have been playing together for the last year and this was their first major tournament. They were determined to bring the trophy back to Ellesmere and playing well together they were determined to achieve this goal.

The girls travelled to Edgbaston to King Edward VI High School for Girls for the tournament. Joanne and Hannah played the qualifying rounds against Warwick High School, King Edward's High School, Princethorpe and Moreton Hall. Reaching the semi-finals Hannah and Joanne played and won their match against a team from Malvern St James. In the final they played the doubles team from Edgbaston High School to win the Doubles Trophy which is now the latest addition to the trophy cabinet at Ellesmere.

Nikki Hoy, Director of the Ellesmere College Tennis Academy, commented "the girls played really well against strong opposition of girls up to 18 years of age. A brilliant effort for Ellesmere in our first year in this competition."
