Excellent English Speaking Board Results Achieved by Ellesmere Pupils

Some of the pupils who received a distinction

A group of Year 6 and 8 pupils have excelled themselves in their English Speaking Board examinations. Pupils had to present a three minute talk, recite a poem and read aloud to an audience including a visiting examiner.

Ninety Lower School pupils from Ellesmere College aged between 8 and 13 entered for the examinations and thirty-nine of them achieved the two top grades of distinction and merit plus.

Mr Richard Boswell, Director of the Arena Arts Programme at Ellesmere College, which includes debating and public speaking, commented, We see public speaking as a very important part of our pupils educational experience. There are not many jobs these days in which you wont have to get up and do a presentation at some point in your career. We aim to give all our pupils the confidence to do this.

Those pupils are Hugh Clutton, Paige Rudd, Freya West, Max Raynor, Christopher von Hoven, Sean Johnson, Sam Clewlow, Jonathan Pescod, Mathew Bielby, Rebecca Owen, and Martin Tatchell. Zoe Haynes.
