Physical Education forms part of the curriculum, but games and sports play an even more important role in the provision of an all-round education. Facilities are good and include a £1.2million Sports Centre which was opened in September 2004.
There is an indoor swimming pool integral to the Sports Centre.
Currently available are: a weight training room, rifle ranges both indoor and outdoor, squash courts, an all-weather surface with flood lights suitable for tennis, netball, five-a-side football or seven-a-side hockey.
As with all areas of Ellesmere life the emphasis in sporting activity is on personal development; this may lead to talented individuals achieving their aim of going on to a professional sporting career, but may equally mean someone performing happily at "B" team or House team level.
Ellesmere College has in place a sporting programme that aims to produce international standard individuals in Cricket, Rugby, Swimming and Tennis. For more information on the upcoming Academy Day, click here.
