Ellesmere 1st XV vs. Bromsgrove 1st XV played ar Worcester Warriors

Our aim is to identify the rugby players from the region possessing the greatest potential to become a full time professional rugby player and beyond.
Each player will benefit from a personal daily programme of rugby requirements; an individual and specific training programme; the introduction and development of weight-lifting techniques; SAQ and core stability programmes and individual nutritional advice.

Weekly Training Programme, week commencing Monday 11th October, Strength to Power.

Some of our stars

Ellesmere has a tradition of producing players who go onto represent County, Region or national teams, click here for more information of this years representatives.

James King was selected to play for Wales under 18’s whilst at the School, he also signed for the Ospreys once completing sixth form at Ellesmere. James has gone onto play for Wales under 20s in the Under 20 World Cup.

Joel Galley was selected to play for Wales under 18’s whilst at the School, he also signed for the Llanelli Scarlet’s after completing sixth form at Ellesmere.

Sam Lewis was selected to play for Midlands under 16’s and England B during the 2006 season, Sam joined Worcester Warriors Academy after finishing sixth form.

Ashley James was selected for the Wales under 18s squad in 2006 and since leaving the School has played for Sale Jets.

Stephen Bannister was selected for North Midlands under 19s whilst at School, he has recently been playing professionally for Warrington Wolves under 20 Rugby League side. Stephen was the captain of the first XV for the 2006/2007 season.

Ellesmere College Academy Coaches

Paul Goodwin

Paul has been working as Director of the Rugby Academy for 6 years; he is currently coaching the first XV. Paul is also involved as a coach for North Midlands U18s and Chairman of Selectors for Shropshire U18.

Alex Murphy

Alex is the newest addition to the team, coming from a professional Rugby back ground with Cardiff Blues and Gwent Dragons, Alex has Welsh caps at U16, U18 and U19 level. Alex is a Welsh RFU Level 3 coach and is responsible for the weekly weights training the players take part in.

Ian Williams: Director of Sport

Ian has been at the School for 7 years, he is currently coaching the first XV, Ian is a RFU level 3 and Welsh RFU level 2 coach. Ian is also currently the Midlands U16s coach.
