Cricket Academy and Development Centre
Our aim is to try and develop players into cricketers of the future, whatever level they are looking at playing. Lead by ECB Level III coach/tutor Rod Jones, we aim to develop young cricketers at the School as well as offering a lot more.

What we offer:
- Cricket throughout the year for both girls and boys
- Video Analysis
- One-to-one and two-to-one coaching with Level II and III coaches
- The latest technology with Pitchvision, the latest ‘Hawk Eye’ based technology to improving our bowlers with instant feedback and a wealth of data for later. Sensors in the nets capture ball by ball records of every delivery and the standard achieved
- Core stability, Cardio-Fitness, SAQ, Trixter spinning bikes
- First step on the coaching ladder by players completing Young Leaders Award and coaching Lower School sessions
- Links to counties
- County Representation 2011, Wales, Cheshire, Shropshire girls and boys

Coaching
During the Michaelmas and Lent terms we run 4 specific cricket sessions, these sessions are:
- One-to-one or two-to-one coaching sessions throughout the week.
- Lower School Development Squad session
- Middle School and Sixth Form Development Squad session
- Middle School and Sixth Form Gold Squad session
- Lower School Girls Development Squad session
- During the summer term Cricket is the main sport for boys with sessions throughout the week.
Academy Coaches
Rod Jones
Rod has been working at Director of Cricket since 2008. Rod is an ECB Level III Coach/Tutor and has been coaching for a number of years; Rod has previously worked with the Shropshire Minor Counties Team, and is currently working as Shropshire U17’s coach, Director of Cricket and player at Birmingham League side, Whitchurch CC.
Peter Hayes
Peter is Master in Charge of Cricket, he holds a NCA Advanced Cricket Coach award and has coached 1st XI cricket in Australia and England. Peter has represented Sussex 2nd XI, Suffolk CCC, MCC, Shropshire Over 50’s in his playing days.
Gareth Owen
Gareth's role as Master in Charge of Cricket Development, ECB Level II Coach, previous manager/coach of Shropshire U13s, former opening batsman of Ellesmere College 1st XI.
Colin Cawcutt
Colin is one of the most experienced coaches at the School, he is a ECB Level II Coach and has been working as 1st XI coach for the past 2 years. Colin also works with Lower School but his main responsibility being the first XI.
Chris Rogers
Chris has been at the school since the Cricket Acadmey began in 2008, his role as Sports Centre Manager allows him to offer his expertise throughout the year to academy players. Chris is a ECB Level II Club Coach, he has been Shropshire under 10s Head Coach for the past 3 years and leads the North Shropshire District programme to under 13's, 11's and 10's. Chris is currently playing his cricket for Birmingham League side, Whitchurch CC.
Who we also work with:
- Shropshire Cricket Board, our coaches are involved in county
coaching, the SCB also use the facility for their District cricket and
Level 1 coaching course.
- Lady Taverner’s have hosted their last 3 national Club finals at
the School with teams from Oxfordshire and North London winning this
year Under 15 and 13 competitions respectively.
- Girls County Age Group pre season training days in April 2011
with Cheshire, Shropshire and Staffordshire under 13 and 15 teams
attending with master classes from current England players Jenny Gunn
and Lydia Greenaway, pictured below.
- England Physical Disability Development Squad has hosted
training weekends here in February and April in preparation for their
summer matches. They also hosted a training weekend in December before
departing in February for Dubai to play Pakistan’s physical disability
team.
