Sports Leadership

The Level 1 Award in Sports Leadership and Level 2 in Community Sport Leadership are nationally recognised qualifications that enables successful candidates to lead small groups in simple sport and recreational activities whilst under the direct supervision of their tutor. The qualification teaches generic leadership skills such as organisation, planning, communication and teamwork through the medium of sport. It is a fun and practical qualification with no entrance requirements or final examinations to sit.

The course will be tutored by Ellesmere College Sports Centre Manager, Chris Rogers. Chris has been working as a Sports Leader since completing his level 2, 7 years ago whilst at college. Chris has gone on to achieve a number of National Governing Body coaching awards, most noticeable becoming a ECB Level II Coach. During his time at University Chris worked as a Sports Leader and Activities Supervisor at Whitchurch Leisure Centre and Prees Cricket and Recreation Club. Before joining Ellesmere in 2008 Chris spent a summer working as a Sports Area Head on a camp in America with international children. Since joining Ellesmere, Chris has developed the holiday courses programme which includes multi-activities and adventure+. Chris still leads the activities with his team but this summer will be passing on his wealth of knowledge to future sports leaders.

In 2011, 6 participants completed either the Level 1 or Level 2 award. These participants have now gone on to take part in leading sports sessions at sports clubs, holiday clubs and schools.
